The 1 Rublis banknote of Latvia, issued in 1992 (Pick P‑35), was introduced by the Bank of Latvia during the transitional period between the Soviet ruble and the Latvian lats. This temporary currency, officially called “rublis,” was in circulation from 1992 to 1993. Among locals, these notes were informally referred to as “Repšiki”, named after Bank of Latvia chairman Einars Repše, whose signature appears on the banknote.
Einars Repše played a vital role in building Latvia’s post-Soviet financial system and later served as the country’s Prime Minister. His signature adds historical weight to the note.
Obverse: Stylized national ornament, the denomination “Viens rublis,” Repše's signature, the year “1992,” and inscriptions in Latvian.
Reverse: Minimalist design with repeating ornament and inscription “Latvijas Banka.” No portraits or coats of arms featured.
An exceptional historical note from Latvia’s post-independence era – ideal for collectors of transitional and post-Soviet currencies.
