The 5 Rubli Latvian banknote from 1992 (Pick P‑37) belongs to the transitional currency issued shortly after the restoration of Latvia’s independence. Printed on paper by the Bank of Latvia, it lacks advanced security features.
The note has no portraits and follows a minimalist design. The front features the denomination, the inscription “Latvijas Bankas pagaidu naudas zīme 1992” (translated as “Temporary currency note of the Bank of Latvia 1992”) and the signature of then Bank of Latvia president Einars Repše. These notes were popularly nicknamed “Repšiki” because of his signature.
The reverse shows a decorative geometric pattern emphasizing the denomination. The note was in circulation in 1992–1993 until it was replaced by the Latvian lats.
A historical transitional piece for collectors of Baltic currency.
