Description
Issued by Latvijas Banka to mark the 400th anniversary of Liepāja, the 2025 silver collector coin “Sun and Wind” artistically captures the harmony of contrasts. It celebrates the dynamic spirit of the Wind and the tranquil beauty of the Sun — symbolic of Latvia’s coastal city and its vibrant heritage.
Obverse
The obverse features the wild rocker Wind sweeping across the rooftops of Liepāja. Iconic landmarks such as the fishing boat, concert hall “Liepājas Dzintars”, Oskars Kalpaks Bridge, and the city’s spires are shown with varying frosting and partial gilding. Inscriptions: “5 EURO” (left) and “LIEPĀJA 400” (right).
Reverse
On the reverse, the Sun is depicted as a serene woman bathing in the sea, her hair radiating like golden beams. The design reflects peace and balance. Inscriptions include the year “2025” at top left and “LATVIJA” along the lower arc.
