The 5 Euro collector coin “Latvian Book – 500” (Latvia, 2025) in Proof quality celebrates the 500th anniversary of the first book printed in Latvian. Issued in limited mintage of 2 500 pieces.
Obverse: depicts a stylised reader holding a book whose cover bears the inscription “LATVIEŠU GRĀMATAI 500”. The year “2025” and face value “5 EURO” are shown on the left side.
Reverse: a sequence of scenes illustrating the story of the first Latvian-language book: from printing, loading into a barrel for transport, inspection at a port, to the burning of confiscated books. The year “1525” is placed at upper left; the semi-circular legend reads “PIRMĀS LATVIEŠU GRĀMATAS STĀSTS”.
