Russia Banknotes for Sale

Russian banknotes are collectible currency notes reflecting the history of Russia from the Russian Empire to the modern Russian Federation. The national currency is the Russian ruble (RUB). Banknote designs feature state symbols, historical figures, architecture, and cultural heritage. Buy collectible Russian banknotes in our online store.

Historical and rare banknotes

  • 500 rubles 1912 — large-format, historically significant note from the Russian Empire featuring Peter I.
  • Small denominations of 5 and 10 rubles — rare as banknotes, especially in UNC condition, since coins of the same denominations were widely used.

Denomination, hyperinflation and default

In the early 1990s, Russia experienced hyperinflation: prices increased 26 times in 1992 and another 10 times in 1993. In 1992, a denomination was conducted, replacing 1000 old rubles with 1 new ruble. The 1998 default caused the ruble to fall from 6.8 to 21–22 rubles per USD. These events influenced banknote issuance and design, explaining the appearance of new denominations and the rarity of older notes.

Modern commemorative banknotes

  • 2014 — Sochi Olympics
  • 2015 — Crimea accession
  • 2018 — FIFA World Cup (from polymer)

Main modern denominations

Collectible notes include 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000, and 5000 rubles. New denominations 200 and 2000 rubles were introduced in 2017. Designs feature state symbols, architecture, and cultural motifs.
