Estonia 2 Euro Roll 2026 – Sipsik is a commemorative euro issue dedicated to Sipsik, one of the best-loved characters in Estonian children’s literature. Created by writer Eno Raud and illustrator Edgar Valter, Sipsik has been part of Estonian childhood culture for generations. The character first appeared in the early 1960s and became a familiar figure through books, illustrations, films and other adaptations. The 2026 coin brings this distinctive piece of Estonian literary heritage to circulating euro coinage.
The commemorative design presents Sipsik lying down, based on the visual tradition established by Edgar Valter’s original illustrations. The deliberately simple and recognizable silhouette preserves the friendly, expressive character that has made Sipsik so memorable to Estonian readers. The inscriptions EESTI, 2026 and SIPSIK identify the issuing country, year and subject, while the twelve stars of the European Union surround the national design. The coin's design was created by Ivar Sakk, who translated Valter’s original artistic conception into a format suitable for minting.
Sipsik is more than a fictional rag doll: within Estonian culture he represents childhood, friendship, imagination and the joy of reading. Eno Raud’s stories introduced generations of children to adventures in which curiosity, play and caring for others are central themes. Eesti Pank specifically describes Sipsik as a character who has accompanied several generations of readers and inspired tens of thousands of children to discover books. The 2026 commemorative coin therefore celebrates not a historical event, but an enduring cultural figure whose popularity crosses generations.
This product is an original roll containing 25 UNC coins. Each coin has a denomination of 2 euros, giving the complete roll a total face value of 50 euros. The total issue of the Sipsik commemorative coin is 1,000,000 pieces. The coins were struck by the Lithuanian Mint (UAB Lietuvos monetų kalykla) and entered circulation on 5 June 2026.
