This 20 Mongo banknote was issued in 1993, during Mongolia’s transition to a market economy. The Mongo is a fractional unit of the Tugrik, with 100 Mongo equaling 1 Tugrik. These small-denomination notes were eventually phased out, making them rare collector’s items today.
The obverse features traditional Mongolian ornamentation along with the 1992 version of the State Emblem of Mongolia, representing Buddhist influence, national unity, and harmony with nature.
The reverse displays symbolic motifs, including a ger (traditional yurt) and radiating sun - highlighting Mongolia's nomadic heritage and cultural identity.
