The Lithuania 2 Euro 2026 Kaunas commemorative coin celebrates one of the country's most historically and culturally significant cities. Issued on 1 October 2026, this special euro coin highlights Kaunas's architectural heritage, including its historic landmarks and distinctive modernist buildings. This edition is presented in a coincard in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality with mintage only 5,000 pieces, making it suitable for collectors of Lithuanian and European commemorative euro coins.
Obverse: The national side features a panorama of Kaunas. In the foreground stands the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as Vytautas the Great Church. The composition includes Kaunas Cathedral Basilica, the House of Perkūnas, Kaunas Town Hall, the towers of St. Francis Xavier Church and Kaunas Castle in the background. The right side features two landmarks associated with Kaunas's modernist heritage: the Central Post Office and the Basilica of the Resurrection of Christ. The design includes the inscriptions “KAUNAS” and “LIETUVA”, the year “2026”, the Lithuanian Mint mark and the artist's initials. Twelve EU stars surround the design.
Reverse: Features the common €2 design created by Luc Luycx, with a geographical representation of Europe and the denomination “2 EURO”. The edge inscription reads “LAISVĖ * VIENYBĖ * GEROVĖ *”, meaning “Freedom * Unity * Well-being *”.
