2 Euro Malta 2026 – Pharaoh Hound is a commemorative €2 coin dedicated to the Pharaoh Hound, known in Maltese as Il-Kelb tal-Fenek. The coin forms part of Malta’s Native Species series, which highlights animals and other elements associated with Malta’s natural and cultural heritage.
The national side features a detailed profile portrait of the Pharaoh Hound, emphasizing the breed’s characteristic long muzzle, upright ears and elegant silhouette. Around the design are the inscriptions IL-KELB TAL-FENEK, MALTA and 2026. The national design was created by Maria Anna Frisone, while the common European side follows the standard €2 design by Luc Luycx.
The Pharaoh Hound is traditionally associated with Malta, where it is known as Kelb tal-Fenek, literally referring to the “rabbit dog”. The breed is closely connected with the island’s hunting tradition and is particularly valued for its speed, agility and keen senses. Its distinctive appearance makes it one of the most recognizable canine breeds associated with Malta and provides a strong national theme for this commemorative issue.
This edition is presented in an official BU Coincard, offering a dedicated collector presentation of the commemorative €2 coin. The Coincard issue has a limited mintage of 30,000 pieces. The coin was minted by the Royal Dutch Mint in the Netherlands. Its combination of Maltese national heritage, an animal theme and limited official Coincard packaging makes it an attractive addition to Malta euro collections and thematic collections dedicated to native species.
