Finland 2 Euro roll 2020 - 100th anniversary of the University of Turku (X25 coins)

The Finland 2 Euro Roll 2020 “100th Anniversary of the University of Turku” commemorates the centenary of the University of Turku, founded in 1920 as Finland’s first university established with Finnish as its principal language of teaching and scholarship. The university emerged from a remarkable nationwide civic fundraising campaign following Finnish independence, with more than 22,000 people contributing to the project. Its foundation therefore represented not only the development of higher education, but also the growing importance of Finnish-language science, culture and national identity.

The commemorative design by Petri Neuvonen uses an abstract grid-like, interconnected pattern to symbolise the relationship between universities and society. The network of intersecting lines can be interpreted as a visual representation of the exchange of knowledge, research and ideas: universities contribute scientific expertise to society, while social development and changing needs influence academic work in return. Above the central motif is the year 2020. On the right side are the Finnish mintmark and the country designation FI. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European flag.

The common side features the standard 2 euro denomination with the map of Europe. The coin combines the traditional technical construction of the Finnish 2 euro denomination with a distinctly modern commemorative design, making the issue particularly recognizable among Finland’s euro commemorative coins. The coin was produced by the Mint of Finland (Suomen Rahapaja) in Vantaa. The edge carries the Finnish inscription “SUOMI FINLAND” together with three heraldic lion-head symbols, a characteristic feature of Finnish euro coinage.

This product is an original roll of 25 coins, with all coins in UNC (Uncirculated) quality. The roll format is especially suitable for collectors who want an untouched group of identical commemorative coins, for searching and grading, or for building a complete collection of Finnish euro commemoratives in original mint-roll format.
