2 Euro Spain 2026 – Poblet Abbey is a commemorative €2 coin dedicated to the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Poblet in Tarragona, Catalonia. The issue continues Spain's annual series devoted to sites included on the UNESCO World Heritage List and represents the seventeenth Spanish €2 commemorative coin in this long-running heritage series. Poblet was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1991.
Founded in the 12th century, Poblet is a major Cistercian monastic complex and one of the most important medieval monuments in Spain. Its fortified architecture combines religious, residential and defensive elements, including the abbey church, cloister and surrounding walls. The monastery also became the royal pantheon of the Crown of Aragon, with the tombs of several Aragonese monarchs, giving the site exceptional historical importance in the history of medieval Spain.
The national side of the coin reproduces a representative view of the Poblet Monastery complex. The upper part carries the circular inscription MONASTERIO DE POBLET, with the Spanish mintmark below it. At the bottom are the inscriptions ESPAÑA and 2026. The architectural image is surrounded by the twelve stars of the European Union. The design is credited to Alfonso Morales Muñoz, while the common European side follows the standard €2 design by Luc Luycx.
This listing refers to the UNC (Uncirculated) circulation-quality version. The coin was struck by the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre – Real Casa de la Moneda (FNMT-RCM) in Madrid. The standard issue has a mintage of 1,500,000 coins, while separate collector editions were produced in BU and Proof formats. With its combination of medieval Cistercian architecture, the history of the Crown of Aragon and UNESCO World Heritage status, the coin is a natural addition to Spanish, European and UNESCO-themed numismatic collections.
Package includes: 1 × Spain 2 Euro 2026 Poblet Abbey – UNC commemorative coin.
