Lithuania 20 Euro 2024 – Lithuania's Membership in NATO and the EU is a commemorative silver collector coin marking the 20th anniversary of Lithuania's accession to NATO and the European Union. Lithuania became a NATO member on 29 March 2004 and joined the European Union on 1 May 2004. The 2024 issue commemorates these two important milestones in Lithuania's modern history and its integration into European and transatlantic institutions.
The obverse places the Lithuanian national tricolour at the centre, symbolising the independence of the Lithuanian state and the foundation for its membership in both organisations. Surrounding the flag are the Vytis, the coat of arms of Lithuania, the inscription LIETUVA, the denomination 20 €, the year 2024 and the Lithuanian Mint mark. In the background, fragmented NATO and EU symbols are rendered using different levels of matt and polished surfaces, creating a layered visual effect.
The reverse repeats the Lithuanian tricolour as the central symbol and surrounds it with the emblems of NATO and the European Union. Beside them are the two key accession dates: 29 March 2004 and 1 May 2004. The background contains a particularly detailed symbolic element: Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, concerning collective defence, is reproduced in microtext, while the musical notes of the European Union anthem, “Ode to Joy” from Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, represent the European dimension of the commemorative theme. The obverse and reverse are struck from two joined planes, giving the coin an unusual relief structure.
Struck in 925 sterling silver in Proof quality, the coin has a diameter of 38.61 mm and a weight of 28.28 g. It was designed by Antanas Pocevičius and minted by the Lithuanian Mint. With an official mintage of only 2,000 pieces, this limited collector issue is a notable addition to collections of modern Lithuanian numismatics, European commemorative coins and issues dedicated to major milestones in Lithuania's contemporary history.
Package includes: Lithuania 20 Euro 2024 commemorative silver coin in Proof quality, protective capsule, original presentation packaging and certificate of authenticity.
