Estonia 2 Euro 2026 “Sipsik” – BU Coincard is a commemorative euro coin dedicated to one of the most beloved characters in Estonian children’s literature. Sipsik was created by writer Eno Raud and illustrator Edgar Valter, and has accompanied several generations of Estonian readers since the publication of the first Sipsik book in 1962. The character has become an enduring symbol of childhood, friendship, imagination and the joy of reading.

The coin design was created by Estonian designer Ivar Sakk, drawing on the distinctive visual character of Edgar Valter’s original illustrations. Sipsik is presented as the central element of the national side, making the coin immediately recognizable and giving the commemorative issue a particularly warm and accessible character. The inscriptions “SIPSIK”, “EESTI” and “2026” identify the character, issuing country and year of issue, while the twelve stars of the European Union surround the national design.

A special feature of this collector version is the BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality and the original official Coincard presentation. The coin was minted by the Lithuanian Mint. Eesti Pank initially released 8,500 Coincards and later added another 8,500, bringing the total Coincard quantity to 17,000 pieces. This Coincard edition is therefore distinctly different from the standard circulation issue: the coin itself belongs to the same one-million-coin commemorative issue, but the BU examples preserved in official Coincards were specially prepared for collectors.

The Coincard itself was designed by graphic artist Vladimir Taiger, known also for his work on Estonian kroon banknotes, while the text for the card was written by artist and author Piret Raud. This combination of the commemorative coin and professionally designed original packaging makes the issue especially attractive for collectors of Estonian euro coins, modern commemorative €2 coins and Estonian cultural themes.
