The 5 ruble banknote issued in 1992 belongs to the first series of national currency of independent Belarus. The front side features two wolves - symbols of strength, resilience, and connection with nature. These animals reflect the rich fauna of Belarus and its cultural heritage. As of 2017, Belarus had the highest population of wolves in Europe, estimated at over 2,000 individuals.
On the reverse side, a mounted knight with a raised sword gallops forward - a historic emblem known as "Pahonia." It represents the defense of the homeland, bravery, and independence. This coat of arms was used as the national symbol between 1991 and 1995. The note also features a text in Belarusian: “Падробка разліковых білетаў караецца па законе” (Counterfeiting is punishable by law).
