2 Euro Belgium 2026 - National Geographic Institute and 200th Anniversary of the Royal Observatory (Reverse Proof) is a Belgian commemorative 2 euro collector coin dedicated to the National Geographic Institute and the 200th anniversary of the Royal Observatory of Belgium. The issue brings together the scientific disciplines of geography and astronomy in a design celebrating Belgian scientific heritage.

The Royal Observatory was founded in 1826, making 2026 the 200th anniversary of its establishment. Over two centuries, the institution has been associated with astronomy, timekeeping, solar physics, geophysics and other scientific research. The National Geographic Institute represents Belgium's expertise in geographical information, surveying, mapping and geospatial reference data. This limited Reverse Proof collector version has a mintage of only 3,500 pieces, making it a particularly limited presentation of the commemorative issue.

Obverse: The commemorative design depicts a child standing on a geographical map and looking upward toward the universe. The geographical map symbolizes the National Geographic Institute, while the celestial elements refer to the Royal Observatory and its astronomical research. The composition incorporates references to both institutions together with the Belgian country designation and the relevant mint and commissioner marks.

Reverse: The common European 2 euro reverse features the denomination 2 EURO and the map of Europe. In Reverse Proof quality, the design combines polished and frosted surfaces in an inverted contrast compared with the conventional Proof finish, creating a distinctive mirror-and-matte appearance. The coin retains the standard bimetallic construction and characteristic edge inscription of the 2 euro denomination.
