2 Euro Belgium 2026 - National Geographic Institute and 200th Anniversary of the Royal Observatory (NL Coincard) is a Belgian commemorative 2 euro issue dedicated to the National Geographic Institute and the 200th anniversary of the Royal Observatory of Belgium. The issue brings together two fields that have shaped scientific understanding of Belgium and the world: geographical mapping and astronomical research.
The National Geographic Institute is represented alongside the Royal Observatory in a design connecting the Earth and the universe. The Royal Observatory traces its origins to 1826, making its bicentenary a major historical milestone in Belgian scientific heritage. The National Geographic Institute is commemorated in connection with its anniversary as an institution responsible for geographic information, surveying, mapping and geospatial reference data. This Brilliant Uncirculated collector version is presented in the Dutch-language Coincard and has a limited mintage of 62,500 pieces.
Obverse: The commemorative side presents a child standing on a geographical map and looking upward toward the universe. The map represents the geographical work of the National Geographic Institute, while the celestial imagery refers to astronomical research at the Royal Observatory. The names of the commemorated institutions are incorporated into the design, together with the Belgian country identification and the mint and commissioner marks.
Reverse: The common European 2 euro design features the denomination 2 EURO and the map of Europe. The coin follows the standard bimetallic construction of the 2 euro denomination and features the characteristic edge inscription with stars and the numeral 2.
Complectation: One Belgian 2 euro commemorative coin in Brilliant Uncirculated quality, supplied in the original Dutch-language Coincard dedicated to the National Geographic Institute and the 200th anniversary of the Royal Observatory.
