Russia 3 Rubles 1993 – Russian Ballet is a commemorative silver coin from the dedicated Russian Ballet series, issued by the Bank of Russia on 19 April 1993. The coin celebrates the artistic tradition of Russian ballet, a cultural phenomenon that became internationally renowned through the achievements of Russian choreographers, composers and dancers.
The reverse features a dynamic dancing ballet duet, capturing the movement and elegance associated with classical ballet. The inscription «РУССКИЙ БАЛЕТ» runs along the rim, while a stylised floral motif completes the composition. The design was created by artist A. V. Baklanov and sculptor S. M. Ivanov. The subject reflects the international reputation of Russian ballet, which gained particular recognition in Europe through the Ballets Russes and the work of figures such as Sergei Diaghilev and Anna Pavlova.
The obverse carries the Emblem of the Bank of Russia featuring the double-headed eagle designed by I. Bilibin. Beneath the emblem are the silver fineness, mintmark and fine-metal content, while the circular inscriptions identify the denomination and issuing authority: «3 РУБЛЯ 1993 г.» and «БАНК РОССИИ». This combination of official Russian monetary symbolism and a strongly cultural reverse design gives the coin a distinctive character within the early post-Soviet commemorative coinage.
The coin is struck in 900 fineness silver with a total weight of approximately 34.88 g and contains at least 31.10 g of pure silver. The Proof finish provides polished fields and contrasting frosted relief, emphasizing the ballet figures and inscriptions. The Proof issue has a substantial but clearly defined mintage of 125,000 pieces and was struck at the Moscow Mint (ММД). The edge carries 300 corrugations.
This 1993 Russian Ballet coin is an appealing choice for collectors of Russian silver commemoratives, ballet-themed numismatics and early Bank of Russia issues. It is also part of a broader series in which the same Russian Ballet design was produced in different precious-metal denominations and finishes, making the 3-ruble silver Proof particularly useful for building a thematic collection.
Package includes: 1 × Russia 3 Rubles 1993 “Russian Ballet” – Silver Proof commemorative coin.
